VINE Became Texas IVSS

Texas replaced its county VINE service with Texas IVSS-Counties on September 1, 2025. The Attorney General says existing VINE registrations carried over. Familiar searches for VINELink in Denton County should therefore route to the current IVSS portal rather than an old registration script or phone instruction.

IVSS supports participating-county events such as booking, release, court-event changes, death, escape, and transfer to TDCJ. The state describes free English and Spanish notifications and contact preferences that can include phone, text, or email, plus preferred hours or blackout dates. Registration information is confidential. The public portal may also allow a search without creating an account.

Search a Denton Inmate in IVSS

Use the Texas IVSS-Counties portal and select Denton County when it is offered by the live service. Search the full name or case and offender parameters that the portal requests. Never choose a result on name alone. Compare date of birth, booking number, case number, or another available identifier.

1. Enter the current portal through the Texas Attorney General notification page.
2. Select Denton County and search the exact full name or known case criteria.
3. Open only a result with at least two matching identity or event fields.
4. Read the custody status, event type, event date, and effective timestamp.
5. Record the access time and booking or case number.
6. Confirm a release or transfer through DCSO PublicAccess and the destination agency.

A released result means the county feed reported an end event for that county episode. It does not cancel another hold or prove that the person entered the community. A transfer-to-TDCJ event should lead to the TDCJ offender search. A federal or immigration destination requires the matching federal system.

Denton IVSS Release Fields

IVSS is built for events and alerts rather than complete release sheets. Its exact display can change, but the following fields control a sound Denton County match.

IVSS may not expose the release type, legal authority, holds, or complete movement history. Ask DCSO for those existing fields when needed. A notification should not be expanded beyond what the event actually says.

Register Denton Release Alerts

Open the correct Denton County result before registering. A broad name-only alert can create confusion when people share a name or have multiple bookings. The matched booking or case is the anchor for the notification.

1. Choose the notification option attached to the matched offender or case.
2. Create or sign into the account if the current portal requires one.
3. Select phone, text, email, or the contact channels then offered.
4. Complete the confirmation code, link, or verification prompt shown by IVSS.
5. Select the custody, release, transfer, and court events that matter.
6. Set preferred contact hours or blackout dates when offered.
7. Save the choices and retain the registration confirmation.

Update a disconnected phone number or old email address promptly. Existing VINE registrations were migrated, but migrated preferences should still be checked. A failure to receive an alert does not prove that no custody event occurred, since feeds and contact delivery can fail.

Legacy VINELink PIN Instructions

Older Texas VINE phone registration used a four-digit personal identification number. When an automated call arrived, the registrant entered that PIN to confirm receipt and stop repeat calls. That instruction belongs to the former VINE workflow.

The distinction is important for migrated accounts. An older registration may retain features from its history, while a new user may verify a phone, text, or email through a code or link. Current IVSS prompts control.

Confirm Denton Release Alerts

After an IVSS release event, search Denton County PublicAccess for the matching jailing episode. Compare booking number, dates, and agency. Then inspect the linked court case for bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, commitment, or a signed release order.

When the event lacks a destination or release type, request the final book-in/release sheet and custody movement log from DCSO. Ask for release date and time, release code and description, releasing authority, holds, and receiving agency. A court order explains the legal basis; the jail record documents physical processing.

For a state transfer, search TDCJ using the SID or TDCJ number. For a federal movement, use BOP only when BOP custody applies and review the federal docket for USMS pretrial custody. ICE's locator answers current immigration detention. These checks prevent “released by Denton County” from being misstated as “free from all custody.”

TDCJ Notifications Are Separate

Texas IVSS-Counties is not the same as TDCJ Victim Services. Once a person transfers to state prison, the statewide offender record and TDCJ's own victim-notification service become the correct channels. An IVSS transfer notice should trigger a TDCJ search rather than continued reliance on the county episode.

TDCJ's public search can show the current unit, projected release date, parole eligibility date, and maximum sentence date for a matching state inmate. Those dates are not completed-release proof. Eligible registered victims can use TDCJ Victim Services for its separate notification process and current preferences.

A Denton conviction also does not mean the person is held in Denton County. No TDCJ unit is listed in Denton County. State prisoners can be housed across Texas, and supervision after release may be routed according to an approved residence.

Denton Registry Is Not IVSS

The Texas Public Sex Offender Registry is a post-release status and location path only for people who are legally required to register. It is not a general inmate notification service. Registry presence does not prove a recent release, and absence says nothing about offenses that do not require registration or a duty that ended.

Compare name, geography, identifying details, and the update date. Use the underlying custody and court sources to answer release questions.

Denton IVSS Limits and Failures

Common failures include namesakes, a wrong county, a delayed jail feed, an unmatched case, transfer to a system outside IVSS, a disconnected contact channel, and migration preference errors. Search results can also change after a new booking or corrected event. Preserve the exact event wording and access time.

IVSS does not cover every federal custody event. Use BOP Locator for applicable federal inmates, PACER for federal case orders, and ICE's locator for current immigration detention.
